New Years, 2010
1. January 2010 by admin.
Happy New Year everyone! As the end of 2009 has come and the start of a new decade, let’s take a few moments to reflect. In the last year, I opened Riverside Manor, BnB. I’ve looked to the future and hope to be able to retire from my “day job” in the next few years so that I can just be an Innkeeper.
In 2009, the States saw more homes being foreclosed and more jobs being lost. While optimistic that this trend will change, my own beleif is that it won’t be anytime this year, perhaps in 2011.
We, the United States, still has a huge presense in Iraq and Afghanistan. Children born since 2002 will have no recollection of peace time. While congress has not declared war, the end result is the same. Lives being lost everyday. In 2009 I decided to support our troops more directly and signed up to ‘adopt a soldier’. As a result, in 2009 I’ve been corresponding with an army specialist in Afghanistan and my life has become richer for it. I encourage all of you to really show your support, to let these men and women know they are not forgotten by doing the same. After all, if it wasn’t for them, our lives would be horrifically different.
Did 2009 have any ‘good moments’? Well, it has had some historic moments. In February the United States saw it’s first Black man sworn in as President. While the jury is still out on his abilities and leadership in the last year, and probably will be until long after he is out of office, the fact remains that while this is still a nation rift with racism, that the people came together and decided he was the best canidate for change. Let’s hope we were right.
On a personal side, besides opening the Inn, I was able to find a place close to me to bring my horse up from my other house. So, I now have Bruiser here, where I see him almost everyday. My family is healthy and that is the best of all.
As for 2010 I hope this begining of a new decade will bring peace and joy to all, and those that have lost homes and jobs that you find employment soon and begin your new life.
In short, I hope this dawn of the new decade will show the turning of the tide and return the States to it’s former glory.

December the 24th, 2009
24. December 2009 by admin.
Remember the days when you were a child and how the 24th was such a long, long day? Waiting for Christmas to arrive? Now as I’ve gotten older, the day rushes by.
So far, the storm hasn’t hit and I hope that those traveling will get to their destinations safely.
For those that have family and friends in the armed forces, I pray that they are safe tonight and always as they defend our country. Without those wonderful men and women, we would not be able to enjoy the magic of this holiday season. Please take a moment out of your day, and send a prayer for thier safe return home to thier families.

Christmas 2009
24. December 2009 by admin.
In just a few days it will be Christmas in 2009. A lot has happened in the last year. Opening the BnB was the biggest life changing event for me. Now, with the first blizzard behind us- and what a storm! The first time ever that State Government even shut down!! And it looks like we are in for another foot of snow over the Holiday. That is great news for the skiers, ice skaters, snowshoers and of course snowmobilers! With lots of great trails around, keep Riverside Manor in mind for your destination for winter time fun, with a warm welcome!
